Pre- & Post-Op Instructions

Zoom Whitening

Zoom Whitening Pre-Op Instructions:

Get ready for a brighter, whiter smile!

To ensure you have the best and most comfortable experience, please review and follow these instructions before your appointment.

 1. Schedule a Dental Cleaning First

  • Have a dental cleaning beforehand for best results.

  • Avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs before treatment unless directed.

2. Eat Before Your Appointment

  • The Zoom procedure takes about 60–90 minutes.

  • It’s best to eat a light meal beforehand, as you’ll avoid eating or drinking anything (except water) for a short time after treatment.

3. Sensitivity Preparation

Some patients experience mild tooth sensitivity during or after whitening. To minimize this:

  • Use a sensitivity toothpaste (like Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive) twice daily for at least 3–5 days before your appointment.

  • You may also use a fluoride rinse or gel as recommended by your dentist.

4. Avoid Staining Substances Before Whitening

For 24–48 hours prior to your visit, try to avoid:

  • Coffee, tea, red wine, dark sodas

  • Berries, soy sauce, curry, and tobacco

This helps ensure your teeth start the procedure as free from surface stains as possible.

5. Brush and Floss Before Your Appointment

  • Brush and floss gently before your visit to remove debris.

  • Avoid using whitening toothpaste or at-home whitening products for at least one week prior, as these can increase sensitivity.

 6. Lip and Skin Care

  • Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly before your appointment.

  • This helps protect your lips from dryness during the procedure.

  7. Medications and Health

  • Inform our office of any medications, recent dental work, or known sensitivity issues.

  • Whitening is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, children under 13, or patients with untreated decay or gum disease.

8. Day of Appointment

  • Please arrive a few minutes early to review consent forms.

  • Remove any lipstick or colored lip balm before the procedure.

  • Relax — your new, brighter smile is just an hour away!

  • Take 600mg of ibuprofen (with food) 30-60 minutes before your appointment.

Zoom Whitening Post-Op Instructions:

Congratulations on your brighter smile!

To help you maintain your results and minimize sensitivity, please follow these instructions carefully over the next 24–48 hours.

1. Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks for 48 Hours

Your teeth are more porous right after whitening and can easily absorb stains. Avoid:

  • Coffee, tea, red wine, dark sodas

  • Berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce, mustard

  • Colored toothpaste or mouthwash

  • Tobacco or vaping

Stick to a “white diet” for 1–2 days — foods like:

  • Chicken, fish, pasta, rice

  • Cauliflower, bananas, potatoes

  • White cheese, milk, water

2. Drink Plenty of Water

  • Rinse your mouth often with water to keep your teeth clean.

  • Avoid very hot or very cold drinks if you experience sensitivity.

3. Tooth Sensitivity

Some patients experience mild “zingers” (short, sharp sensitivity). This usually subsides within 24–48 hours. To reduce discomfort:

  • Brush gently with sensitive toothpaste (like Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive).

  • Use fluoride gel or desensitizing gel if provided by your dentist.

  • Avoid extremely hot or cold foods.

4. Oral Hygiene

  • Continue brushing and flossing as normal, but gently.

  • Avoid colored mouth rinses for at least 24 hours.

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.

 5. Maintain Your Bright Smile

  • Avoid stain-causing foods and drinks regularly.

  • Use whitening toothpaste a few times per week.

  • Schedule regular cleanings and consider at-home touch-up trays as recommended.

6. Call Us If:

  • You experience severe or prolonged sensitivity (lasting more than 48 hours).

  • Your gums remain irritated or sore.

  • You have any questions or concerns about your results.

Thank you for choosing Lexington Dental Frisco! We look forward to giving you a confident, radiant smile.
